1959 France Rugby Shirt

For the first time in the history of the tournament, France won the 1959 tournament outright, after sharing the top two places in 1954 and 1955.

Lucien Mias' teammates defeated Scotland (9-0) and Wales (11-3). In England, the French XV drew 3-3, which had not happened since 1922.

Only the Irish managed to beat France 9-5, despite a try by Jean Dupuy, converted by Pierre Lacaze, but it was not enough to prevent the French from beating their neighbours across the Channel for the first time.

It was a real pleasure for a legendary team that will forever remain in the history of French rugby and the tournament.
