




The year 1968 got off to a bad start for the French rugby union team, which lost two of its players just before the start of the tournament: the legendary Guy Boniface and new international Jean Michel Capendeguy. Shocked by these successive tragedies, the French XV, captained by Carrère, rose to the challenge and an expanded squad of 27 players enabled France to achieve the first Grand Slam in its history.
