The 1974/1975 season marked a historic turning point: Paris Saint-Germain played in the First Division for the very first time in its history under the name PSG.
That year, the club made a big splash in the transfer market with the arrival of Mustapha Dahleb from Sedan for a record fee of 130 million old francs (around €200,000, which was indeed a record at the time). He immediately became PSG's first big star and one of the symbols of this new era.
Alongside captain Jean-Pierre Dogliani and striker François M'Pelé, Dahleb and his teammates had a courageous season:
Paris Saint Germain struggled in defence and finished with the second worst defence in the league. For the following season, the club signed Benfica Lisbon defender Humberto Coehlo, who helped strengthen the Parisian defence alongside young talents such as Jean Marc Pilorget
A highlight of the 1974 season
During the year, an exceptional event was organised: a friendly match against Botafogo, bringing together a mixed selection of players from PSG and Olympique de Marseille. This was a unique initiative in the club's history... one that we would like to see repeated today (just kidding).
