They played against New Zealand, who surprised everyone with their "bizarre war cry". The French team, put together by the USFSA, whose distinctive rings they wore on their chests, managed to score two tries by Cessieux (the first scorer in history!) and Jerôme, one of which was converted by Pujol, for a total of eight points. The New Zealanders scored 10 tries, two of which were converted, for a total of 38 points. The final
score was 8-38, but New Zealand captain Mr Gallaher praised the French team, saying, "We played an entertaining game today, the most entertaining of all, and we had a lot of fun because we met some perfect gentlemen." That's
something, at least.
